AMLE- Is it Really CRT?

Takeaways/ Aha Moments:

  • That schools can ban the discussion of systematic racism, conscious an unconscious bias, and privilege and revoke that ability of conversation with the students

  • That schools are okay with almost taking two steps back instead of forward restricting the possible learning, and going against: The Successful Middle School: This We Believe and Cultivating Genius

  • A takeaway I had was that even though we might not need CRT to be deeply engrained within our classroom, but that we are aware and make our students aware of the inequalities that are present for majority of people in the country

Connection to Class:

  • I think that this relates especially to the textbook (WEMSTSK) with making sure to support the identity of your students, and making it a point to allow for those conversations in the classroom, and developmentally as well because we are aware that children know what racism is so why not give them to tools to talk about it

  • It also connects with the idea of what is expected curriculum that is supposed to be taught compared to what teachers, and students want to focus on/ learn. In a student based approach I think that can be a really important to allow for that discussion to happen between them.

Questions:

  • question for the author: Why would she not teach CRT to preservice educators?
